Report: Spurs would have ‘no problems’ meeting club’s asking price for attacker

La Repubblica have revealed (22/07/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) that Tottenham would not have any problems meeting AS Roma’s asking price for Nicolo Zaniolo.

The speculation linking Zaniolo with a move to Tottenham has intensified over the last couple of days.

CalcioMercato.it revealed on Thursday that Spurs’ opening bid of £25m plus Joe Rodon for the winger was turned down by Roma, who informed the North London club they would only consider a straight cash offer for the 23-year-old.

TuttoJuve subsequently reported that Spurs are not willing to give up on Zaniolo, with Antonio Conte said to be ‘intent on convincing’ the club’s hierarchy to push ahead with an offer for the Italy international.

The report explained that the Italian has been on the Roma star’s trail for several years and even tried to take him to Inter Milan previously.

La Repubblica have now stated that Tottenham ‘have not stopped thinking about’ the winger.

The report claims that Roma value Zaniolo at €50m (£42.5m) and that the Premier League club would have ‘no problem’ paying that amount for the player.

Tottenham would still have plenty of money to spend this summer, given that they did not end up spending big on a left-sided centre-back. However, the question is if the north London club feel Zaniolo is worth more than £40m, given the injury problems he has had over the last couple of years.
