Report: Spurs would have to pay significant fee to Conte if they sack him

90 min claim that Tottenham Hotspur would have to pay off £15m to Antonio Conte if they decide to sack him immediately.

Some reports over the last 24 hours have indicated that Daniel Levy is now deliberating his next move with some of his close confidants after Conte verbally attacked the squad following the draw at Southampton and the Spurs chairman is expected to pull the plug on the project this week (The Telegraph).

However, 90 min have now suggested that while the Tottenham hierarchy are unhappy with their head coach’s outburst, their decision on whether to sack him immediately is not a straightforward matter

This is because there is said to be a clause in Conte’s contract that decrees that he would have to be paid an entire year’s salary of £15m if he is sacked before the end of his deal this summer.

The publication explains that Conte previously won a drawn-out tribunal case with Chelsea over an unfair dismissal claim, which ended up costing the Blues £26.6m. Spurs are said to be keen on avoiding a similar scenario.

If there is truth to this report, then Conte has deliberately put the club in a very difficult position. The Italian knows that what he said was a sackable offence and it is quite ironic that accused the players of being ‘selfish’ when he himself has acted incredibly selfishly with his outburst, with no regard to the club’s financial health or the team’s objectives this season.
