Report: Spurs would prefer to sign Premier League star on loan this summer

The Evening Standard have now suggested that Tottenham Hotspur have some concerns regarding a deal for Harry Maguire and would prefer to sign the centre-back on loan.

It was first reported by The Daily Mail a couple of days ago that Spurs have already made checks on Maguire’s situation and are well-placed to sign him up should they decide to push ahead with a move this summer.

This was followed by a report from Football Transfers on Wednesday which also backed up Tottenham’s interest in the England international, with the report adding that the Lilywhites face competition from Aston Villa and Everton for the centre-back.

The outlet also claimed that the former Leicester City man had already made a decision to leave Old Trafford this summer since he wants to play regular football to ensure he keeps his place in England’s starting eleven.

Tottenham more interested in Maguire on loan

However, The Evening Standard have now suggested that there are some potential issues with Spurs’ pursuit of Maguire, with one of them being Postecoglou’s preference to work with younger players rather than experienced veterans.

The outlet adds that there are also concerns at Tottenham over the Man Utd star’s current salary of £190,000 a week, with a loan deal seen as a more ‘viable option’ by the North London club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham will not make a move for Maguire unless Posetcoglou approves the Man Utd man as a target, particularly since we do not have a director of football in place at the moment.

While I can see Spurs prioritising Laporte over Maguire, it remains to be seen if the Man City star would want to join a club that is not in any European competitions next season.
