Report: Spurs youngster on trial at Southampton ahead of potential transfer

According to Hampshire Live, Tottenham academy starlet Michael Craig is currently on trial at Southampton, with the Saints thought to be eyeing a permanent transfer.

Craig signed for Spurs from Watford’s youth academy aged just 12 and has been capped by Scotland at youth level.

The defensive midfielder has a twin brother, Matthew Craig, who is also with the Tottenham academy. The twins were both named on the bench in Tottenham’s Europa League conference match against Pacos de Ferreira back in August.

The 18-year-old has featured nine times for Tottenham’s Under-23s so far this campaign (Transfermakrt).

However, he was absent from the Under-23s’ matchday squad for their clash against Crystal Palace on Monday while his brother Matthew started for Wayne Brunette’s side.

According to Hampshire Live, that is because Craig is currently on trial on the South Coast.

The report claims that the youngster could walk away from Spurs and pen a contract with the Saints.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs have had several promising talents poached from their academics over recent years. While it is understandable if players want to move abroad or to the lower leagues to break into the first-team quicker, losing talents to other Premier League clubs would be a sign of bigger issues.
