While Roles has now technically returned to Tottenham after the end of his loan spell, the report claims that the Cambridge United are close to securing a new deal for the youngster in order to keep him at the club for the rest of the season.

Roles is rated very highly at Spurs and enjoyed a fantastic campaign with the club’s development squad last season. He subsequently travelled with the first team on the pre-season tour and impressed with his displays.

Cambridge head coach Colin Calderwood praised how much Roles has improved physically since the start of the season. “He has played large minutes in three games in six, seven days. That’s good, we’ve got to get one or two others to that level, the younger ones.”

I was extremely impressed with what I saw of Roles in pre-season as he showed that he was a very intelligent footballer. After a successful loan spell at Cambridge United, I was really hoping that he would get a loan move to a League One or a Championship club in order to continue his development. However, at least he is guaranteed to get regular game time at Cambridge.
