Tottenham Hotspur winger, Bryan Gil, has been nominated alongside some of the brightest talents in the continent for the 2021 Golden Boy award.
The annual award is handed to the player who is deemed to be the brightest talent under 21 years of age in European football in a calendar year.
The accolade was won by former Tottenham midfielder, Rafael van der Vaart, in its inaugural edition in 2003 while superstars like Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have also won it in the past (MEN).
Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland took home the award last year on the back of his impressive start to life at Borussia Dortmund.
Gil, who arrived at Spurs this summer from Sevilla after impressing on loan at Eibar last season, is one of the 40 names who has been shortlisted.
Other prominent names who have made the cut include Barcelona’s Pedri, Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala, Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

While Gil is extremely unlikely to win the award given the other names who have been nominated, the fact that he has made the shortlist is certainly a big endorsement of the 20-year-old’s talent. It will certainly do his confidence a world of good to see his name alongside the most talented young players in the world.
