Report: Steve Hitchen could join Manchester United under one condition

Former Tottenham director Steve Hitchen could join Manchester United’s recruitment team if Mauricio Pochettino becomes the club’s new manager, according to Football Insider.

Hitchen resigned from his position as Tottenham’s director of technical performance last week having become frustrated with his backseat role in the past two transfer windows following the arrival of Fabio Paratici (The Telegraph).

The Athletic reported that attempts were made to keep the 45-year-old on board at Spurs, but his decision to seek a new challenge had already been made.

Football Insider claim a new job may be on the horizon for Hitchen, who could join Man United if former Spurs manager Pochettino is hired in the dugout at the end of the season.

The pair worked together at Spurs and the report states the current Paris Saint-Germain boss would be in favour of being reunited with Hitchen at Old Trafford.

Pochettino has been touted to take the reins at Old Trafford at the end of the season with the United squad keen on the Argentine’s appointment (Daily Mail) once Ralf Rangnick steps down from his interim role.

United flirted with the possibility of acquiring Pochettino after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November (Sky Sports), but backed off from a deal after PSG chiefs confirmed their intentions to keep him in the Parc des Princes dugout (The Athletic).

Spurs Web Opinion

Hitchen and Pochettino allegedly had a good working relationship at Tottenham so it wouldn’t be totally out of the ordinary to see them link up again. They would also have bigger resources at Man Utd too, so that could be a dangerous combination if they would be able to sign the right profile of players.
