Report: Steve Hitchen’s pursuit of candidate is ‘destined to end in failure’

Football Insider have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino does not expect his proposed return to Tottenham to be completed.

If some sources are to be believed, Pochettino has told the Paris Saint-Germain hierarchy that he wishes to leave the club amid interest from Spurs and Real Madrid.

PSG have triggered a clause to extend his contract until 2023 but according to the Sunday World, it could be a strategic move by the Ligue 1 club just to ensure they are entitled to a bigger pay-off if he leaves the French capital.

Football Insider have now claimed that Tottenham’s attempts to bring Pochettino back to the club this summer are doomed to fail.

The report claims that the 49-year-old is happy to be in contention for the Spurs job but does not expect the move to go through, with PSG keen to hold on to him for next season.

It is also suggested that Tottenham’s pursuit of Pochettino is being driven by the club’s technical performance director, Steve Hitchen.
