Report: Striker linked with Spurs may now be available for less than £35m

Gazzetta dello Sport have claimed that Lille would be ready to sell rumoured Tottenham target Jonathan David for less than €40m (£35m) in January.

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Spurs could enter the market for a number nine to replace Harry Kane, with David said to be one of the names on the club’s radar.

In fact, TEAMtalk claimed last month that Ange Postecoglou’s men have a ‘firm intention’ to make a move for the Canadian international in January.

Last week, L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN) reported that while Lille were demanding that interested clubs meet David’s €60m (£52m) release clause last summer, they would accept a lower fee for the striker in January since he has fallen out of favour over recent weeks.

Lille are ready to sell Jonathan David for under £35m

Gazzetta have now backed up that claim, stating that Milan have identified the 23-year-old as the man to replace the departing Olivier Giroud.

The outlet claims that Rossoneri feel that David is the missing piece of their puzzle and that he has all the characteristics to thrive in Stefano Pioli’s team.

It is alleged that with the striker’s contract expiring in 2025, Lille would be willing to sell him for under €40m (£35m), with Milan intent on taking the opportunity to sign the player on a ‘discount’.

Out of all the number nines we have been linked with over the last few weeks (including Ivan Toney, Santiago Gimenez, Dusan Vlahovic etc), David would undoubtedly be the least expensive. However, it does not appear as if the Canadian is at the top of Postecoglou’s wishlist.
