Report: Striker wanted by Spurs ‘reluctant’ to sign new contract

According to a report in the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness), rumoured Tottenham target, Dusan Vlahovic is showing some reluctance in signing a new contract with Fiorentina.

When Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham looked in doubt during the summer, Vlahovic and Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez were booth mooted as potential targets for Spurs.

According to Alasdair Gold, it was the Fiorentina man who was Fabio Paratici’s number one striker target.

As it happened, Kane ended up staying at Spurs while Martinez and Vlahovic also remained at their respective clubs.

Gazzetta’s latest report claims that Tottenham and Atletico Madrid ‘had made up their minds’ to snap up one of either Martinez or Vlahovic this summer.

However, it is explained that both Fiorentina and Inter put ‘a wall up’ to ensure the players would stay.

It is also revealed that while Martinez is willing to sign a new contract at the San Siro, the Serbian is more reluctant about doing the same at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

The report claims that Vlahovic wants his current €1m/year salary to be quadrupled and an €80m (£68.8m) release clause to be added into any new deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

The developments on Harry Kane’s future will likely dictate whether or not Tottenham reignite their interest in Vlahovic in January or next summer.

If City do not make a renewed attempt for the England captain in the coming windows, I cannot see us splashing out £60m+ on a centre-forward.
