Report suggests midfielder was last night ‘forced off injured’ by Spurs team mate

Two Tottenham Hotspur players were on opposing sides last night when Croatia took on Denmark in the UEFA Nations League.

Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg was named in the Danish starting eleven where he came up against summer signing Ivan Perisic at the Stadion Maksimir.

With the score level at 1-1 in the 67th minute of the match, Perisic was in possession of the ball and tried to skip past Hojbjerg, only for the Dane to turn his body to block the run of the 33-year-old and take the ball off him.

Perisic was substituted just four minutes after the encounter involving the Spurs pair, with the Daily Star claiming that Hojbjerg appeared to injure Perisic, which led to him being ‘forced off’.

Tottenham are next in action on October 1st when they make the short trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal in the first north London derby of the new season.

It was a full-hearted, yet innocent challenge from Hojbjerg who certainly will have not to have wanted to cause any harm to his team-mate. There is no confirmation at this stage whether or not Perisic’s substitution was caused by the challenge, or whether it was purely tactical.
