Report suggests Spurs could use Lo Celso in potential deal to sign centre-back

La Nazione have raised the possibility that Giovani Lo Celso could be used as a makeweight by Tottenham Hotspur in a deal to sign Nikola Milenkovic from Fiorentina.

The same publication reported last week that Tottenham had enquired about Milenkovic’s availability to Fiorentina.

The report explained that the Viola want to tie down the centre-back, who has 12 months left to run on his contract but the Serbian had not decided whether to put pen to paper on a new deal.

It was asserted that apart from Spurs, the likes of Juventus and Inter Milan had also expressed an interest in signing Milenkovic.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina were credited with an interest in Lo Celso last month (The Times) but over recent days, it has emerged that Villarreal have stepped up their pursuit of the Argentine (Xavi Jorquera Marquez).

According to La Nazione’s latest update, although Fiorentina consider the Lo Celso operation to be ‘complicated’, the deal could still potentially be alive due to Tottenham’s interest in Milenkovic.

The report states that the North London club are ‘one of the contenders’ for the centre-back’s signature and that if they ‘launch the definitive assault’ for the defender over the coming days, the Serie A club could explore a move for Lo Celso as a part of the deal.

La Nazione also add that the future of Milenkovic should become clear over the next couple of days, with Fiorentina said to have identified Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs as a potential replacement for the Serbian international.

Spurs Web Opinion

I fully expect Spurs to sign a central defender before the window closes, with Tanganga seeming likely to follow Rodon out of the door. Milenkovic would fit the bill perfectly as a cover for Cristian Romero, given that he has played on the right side of a back three for Fiorentina.
