Report suggests that 26-year-old will not be at Tottenham next season

According to El Desmarque, Sergio Reguilon might have to find a new club in the summer as neither Tottenham nor Atletico Madrid want the Spaniard.

Reguilon has had a nightmare of a season so far, being out with a groin injury until November before picking up another hamstring injury two weeks ago (Transfermarkt).

It looked like there could finally be some light at the end of the tunnel for the Spaniard when Estadio Deportivo reported last week that he is expected to be back in action by mid-March and that he may get some chances to impress at Atletico after the injury to Reinildo Mandava.

However, this suggestion was quickly shot down by the print edition of Marca (03/03/23 via Sport Witness) a few days ago, with the publication suggesting that the 26-year-old has not won Diego Simeone over.

The report added that it was ‘impossible’ for Los Rojiblancos to ask Tottenham to sign the left-back permanently or to even extend his loan deal.

El Desmarque have now also said that the La Liga club will not hang on to Reguilon and suggest that Tottenham also do not want him, despite paying €30m (£26.5m) to sign him from Real Madrid back in 2020.

So, it thus looks like the Spain international will have to find a new club in the summer transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

One cannot help but feel sorry for Reguilon as the injuries he suffered at the start of 2022, have severely hampered him.

I have no doubt that a few Spanish clubs would be willing to take a punt on the left-back in the summer, given how well he did at Seville.

However, Spurs will likely have to loan him out once again as I doubt any club would be willing to pay a fee for him, given his recent injury record.
