Report suggests why Liverpool’s injury crisis could be bad news for Spurs

Liverpool received a further blow to their title hopes on Wednesday as it emerged that Joe Gomez had picked up a knee injury.

The Merseysiders confirmed yesterday that the central defender had surgery to repair a tendon in his left knee and is expected to be out for a significant part of the current campaign.

With Virgil van Dijk already out injured, losing Gomez leaves Jurgen Klopp somewhat short of senior options at centre-back.

Some Spurs fans could view this as a potential boost for the North Londoners’ hopes of pushing the Reds for the title as Liverpool’s triumph last season was built on a solid defence.

However, if reports are to be believed, the latest injury news could come as a blow to Tottenham’s hopes of signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar in January.

Spurs have been backed to return for the Slovak international in January after failing to sign him during the previous transfer window (Football.London’s Alasdair Gold).

ESPN reported last week that the Jurgen Klopp’s side will push the North Londoners for the 25-year-old when the transfer market reopens.

They suggested that Jose Mourinho still wants to bring Skriniar to North London but Liverpool’s interest could complicate matters for Spurs.

That was even before the current Premier League champions lost Gomez, and so their desire to snap up Skriniar may have just increased.
