Report: Summer arrival could leave Spurs this month and head out on further loan spell

Tottenham Hotspur could decide to cut short Pierluigi Gollini’s loan spell this month according to Italian news outlet L’Eco di Bergamo.

Sunday’s print edition of the newspaper (02/01) claimed that the goalkeeper could return to Atalanta and head out on loan to another team for the remainer of the season.

Lazio has been mentioned as a potential alternative destination for the former Aston Villa stopper, but as things stand, he is still a member of Antonio Conte’s side.

The 26-year-old joined the North Londoners on loan in July which includes the option to make the deal permanent for £13million, or the clause can also be triggered if he makes a certain amount of appearances for the first team (Sky Sports).

Gollini has to date not made a single appearance in the Premier League during the current campaign with his eight outings coming in the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup (transfermarkt).

The Italian international was brought in to provide competition for Hugo Lloris and challenge him for the number one jersey, but has found the Frenchman to be in inspired form this season.

It would not make much sense for Tottenham to send Gollini back to Italy with the relatively inexperienced Alfie Whiteman or Brandon Austin expected to step up to be Lloris’ understudy.

Tottenham’s first decision when it comes to goalkeepers has to be to tie down Hugo Lloris to a new contract with the 35-year-old set to be out of contract this summer.
