Report: Talk within Tottenham is that coach has now left his role at the club

The Times’ Henry Winter has revealed that the talk at Tottenham at the moment is that Chris Powell has left his role as Head of Coaching for Under-17s to Under21s.

Powell, who made 667 appearances over a professional career that lasted for 23 years, has enjoyed plenty of success in coaching since hanging up his boots as a player back in 2010.

The 53-year-old was appointed as the director of youth development at Tottenham back in 2020, a role in which he has overseen the coaching and development of all age groups from Under-17s to Under-21s.

He was part of Ryan Mason’s backroom staff in both of the 31-year-old’s short stints as interim head coach following the departures of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Powell has also been part of Gareth Southgate’s coaching staff intermittently since 2019, which included several major tournaments.

Winter has now taken to social media to reveal that some at Hotspur Way expect the experienced coach to leave his role at the club’s academy.

One would expect a slight restructuring of the academy set-up now that Fabio Paratici has left the club and Scott Munn is set to begin work as chief football officer. This might be one of many changes we see over the coming months.
