Report: Team Spurs are scheduled to play next week suffer COVID-19 outbreak

Reports have revealed that Aston Villa have closed their training ground due to a significant COVID-19 outbreak among players and staff.

The Premier League side are due to play Liverpool in the FA Cup on Friday, while Spurs are scheduled to visit Villa’s stadium on Wednesday evening.

Aston Villa have now confirmed that first-team training has been called off ahead of the Liverpool match, while they are in talks with medical representatives, the FA and the Premier League.

Tottenham have already had one Premier League game called off recently when Fulham were unable to play the North Londoners last month.

Two rescheduled matches later in the season could cause significant fixture pile-ups for Jose Mourinho and the Lilywhites.

Spurs are due to take on Marine in the FA Cup this weekend, but Mourinho is sure to be asked about the situation regarding Aston Villa in his Friday press conference.

In their official club statement, Aston Villa said that first and second rounds of testing had thrown up positive results, including first-team players and staff.

The statement read (AVFC): ‘Aston Villa can confirm that the Club has closed its Bodymoor Heath training ground after a significant Coronavirus outbreak.

‘A large number of first-team players and staff returned positive tests after being routinely tested on Monday and immediately went into isolation.

‘A second round of testing was carried out immediately and produced more positive results today.

‘First team training ahead of tomorrow’s FA Cup match with Liverpool was cancelled.

‘Discussions are ongoing between medical representatives of the Club, the Football Association and the Premier League.’
