Report: The five positions that Mourinho wants to strengthen with plans at an ‘advanced’ stage

Tottenham Hotspur are set to prioritise additions in five key areas this summer as Jose Mourinho attempts to overhaul his squad, according to a report by Football Insider.

The Daily Mail reported on Thursday that Tottenham had furloughed their recruitment team for April and May including chief scout Steve Hitchen due to the coronavirus pandemic while claiming that Mourinho’s summer plans were in grave danger following the decision.

Football Insider now claim that despite the decision to cease recruitment operations, Spurs are already in an “advanced” stage with their transfer operations for this summer, with key targets having already been identified.

The report claims that Mourinho wants a new centre-forward to compete with Harry Kane after his latest injury troubles, a midfield anchorman, a centre-back, a right-back and an attacking midfielder.

It is said that the club are waiting to see how plans to finish the season are going to unfold before pushing ahead with moves for their targets.

The Lilywhites are said to have already made a preliminary move to tempt Willian with the Brazilian’s contract at Chelsea set to expire in the summer.

There is no doubt that those five positions are exactly the areas where we need strengthening and so it is good to see that Mourinho has clearly identified our weaknesses. However, given the financial uncertainty clubs are facing at the moment, getting five transfers over the line will be extremely difficult unless we pick up some smart deals.
