Report: The Premier League strongly discouraged Spurs against engaging in transfer

The Guardian have revealed that the Premier League are strongly discouraging Tottenham from doing business with Russian clubs after it emerged that the North Londoners had accepted Spartak Moscow’s offer for Davinson Sanchez.

Earlier this week, we relayed an update from The Times which claimed that Spurs had accepted a bid worth €15m (£13m) offer from Spartak for Sanchez.

The report revealed that even though the centre-back is also on the radar of Real Betis, Sevilla and Galatasaray, it was the side from the Russian Premier League who made the biggest bid.

However, The Athletic revealed on Tuesday that Sanchez is having reservations about making the move to Spartak.

Premier League make stance clear to Tottenham

The Guardian now state that the Tottenham man is expected to say ‘no’ to Spartak’s offer but reveal that the accepted bid has raised some eyebrows in the Premier League.

All top-flight clubs have allegedly been strongly discouraged from conducting business with their Russian counterparts.

The report explains that while the PL cannot stop its clubs from dealing with Russian sides, it has warned them to be mindful of the risks attached, which include the funds potentially coming from a sanctioned individual or entity.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not a good look for Tottenham to be doing business with a Russian club.

Thankfully, it appears as of Sanchez himself is set to turn down the opportunity to move to Spartak, which is not surprising, given that the likes of Sevilla and Real Betis are allegedly eyeing the defender.
