The Athletic have now dug into Son Heung-min’s numbers during his nine seasons in the Premier League and the data certainly makes a persuasive case as to why the Tottenham captain is one of the best attackers to have ever graced the competition.
The report points out that Son’s 178 goal contributions in the Premier League (118 goals and 60 assists) is the third highest of any player during those nine seasons.
The only two ahead of him are former Spurs striker Harry Kane (189 goals and 40 assists) and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah (153 goals and 67 assists).
During that time, Son has comfortably outdone the likes of Kevin De Byune, Jamie Vardy, Raheem Sterling, Riyad Mahrez and Sadio Mane, many if not all of whom are considered Premier League legends.

The report reveals that the Tottenham man has also scored more goals with his weaker foot than any other player in Premier League history, with 48 of his goals coming from his left.
In addition, The Athleitc provide a list of all the players who have outdone their xG in front of goal over those nine years and Son’s name appears on the list more often than anyone.
The South Korean has comfortably scored more than his xG in 2020-21, 2016-27, 2021-22 and in the ongoing season.
