Report: The total fee Tottenham will be paid from FIFA over the coming days

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham will receive a total fee of £1.97m from FIFA as a result of the participation of their players at the World Cup.

FIFA will give financial compensation to various clubs whose players are released for the World Cup as part of what is called their Club’s Benefits Program, with the compensation depending on the number of days each player spends in the tournament (The Daily Mail).

Spurs had a total of 12 players involved in Qatar – Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, Ivan Perisic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Son Heung-min, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr, Cristian Romero, Ben Davies and Joe Rodon (who is out on loan).

Two of those players – Lloris and Romero are set to take part in the final as Argentina square off against France for the trophy on Sunday, while Ivan Perisic will play in the third-place play-off.

Based on the number of days each of Tottenham’s players have been in Qatar, The Athletic estimate that the North London club will receive $2.4m (£1.9 m) from FIFA.

The £2m will not really make much of a dent for Tottenham or any of the other big European clubs but that sort of money could prove extremely valuable for clubs from smaller leagues like the J League or the Croat top flight, who have several representatives in Qatar.
