Tottenham Hotspur’s player of the season Heung Min Son will surely start in the Champions League final against Liverpool on June 1.
Son has been instrumental in Tottenham’s journey to their first ever CL final this season, scoring the crucial opener against Borussia Dortmund, as well as three goals home and away against Man City in the quarter-finals.
Sonny is set to become only the second Asian footballer to feature in the Champions League final, following Park Ji-sung in 2011 for Man United.
As a result, it is expected that huge numbers of fans from South Korea, and across Asia, will tune in to see a familiar face in the final (talkSPORT).
However, Son’s loyal followers in South Korea will have to wake up at 4 am to watch the match itself, something the winger used to do as a child.
The Tottenham star added that he will give 100% for those making the effort to get up and watch him.
Son said (talkSPORT): Everyone is going to watch the game so I’m really, really excited to play.
“South Korean people are very happy and excited. I’m playing in the Champions League final! They realise this and it’s really special.
“It’s a late kick-off time, or rather an early time in the morning back at home.
“It’s not that easy. I did it a few times when I was a child, but it’s not that easy.
“You go to sleep early and you wake up at four o’clock or whatever. Some people have to go to work. That’s why I always give 100 per cent.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I believe that Sonny will be a key figure in the final, especially if Harry Kane does not play the full 90, which is unlikely. Son has been Tottenham’s go-to man when Kane has been out injured, and he and Moura offer the main threats in behind that strong Liverpool defence. If Son is in the mood he was in at the Etihad in the quarter-final second leg, the Reds are in trouble.
