Report: This week could be crucial in determining future of Gareth Bale amidst Spurs links

Marca have reported that Gareth Bale is set for showdown talks with Zinedine Zidane this week as Real Madrid look to sort out his future.

Reports over the past few weeks have suggested that Tottenham Hotspur are set to make another attempt to re-sign their former star this summer, with Real Madrid keen to get rid of him (El Espanyol).

Marca now assert that getting the Welshman off their wage bill is one of Madrid’s priorities this summer.

The report claims that Los Blancos are yet to make any progress in their attempts to move Bale on this summer but remain hopeful that they will be able to find a solution.

It is claimed that the 31-year-old has not been in Zidane’s plans for a while but the club face an uphill battle in the quest to sell him as he has two years to run on his bumper contract.

However, it is suggested that Bale will hold a meeting with Zidane about his future when he arrives for pre-season and Madrid remain hopeful that he can be convinced to leave.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Real Madrid’s apparent desperation to get rid of Bale, I can foresee a situation where they would subsidise a portion of his wages just to get him to leave. I certainly would not rule out Daniel Levy making a late play to re-sign him. However, the noise coming out of the Welshman’s camp seems to be that he is content to see out his contract at the Spanish capital. So, Spurs fans should not be getting their hopes up.
