Former Tottenham Hotspur player Gedson Fernandes could be set to return to the Premier League, with Aston Villa, Fulham, and Crystal Palace considering a move for the Besiktas star.

Fernandes spent a year on loan at Tottenham between January 2020 and January 2021 but failed to make a significant impact.

He amassed just 14 appearances for the Lilywhites before returning to his parent club, Benfica (Transfermarkt).

Since then, the Portuguese midfielder has completed loan spells in Turkey with Galatasaray and Caykur Rizespor, before making a permanent switch to Besiktas last summer.

The 24-year-old has made 29 appearances for Besiktas this season, contributing six assists (Transfermarkt).

Fernandes was recently linked with Crystal Palace, who were thinking about bringing the player back to the English league (Fanatik).

Now, speculation is intensifying regarding Fernandes’ return to the Premier League, with more clubs thought to be keen on securing his services.

According to a report from Sporx, Palace will face competition from league rivals Aston Villa and Fulham to bring Fernandes in this summer.

Fernandes is thought to be an “indispensable name” in the Besiktas side right now, but with this rise has come his status as one of the “favourites” in the transfer market, too. The report adds that Italian sides Lazio and Roma are also circling the player.

Apparently, Besiktas will demand €15 million for Fernandes, and will require a “15% share of the subsequent sale.”

It is believed Besiktas will have to give half of any fee they receive this time around to Benfica as part of the initial agreement to sign the player last year.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fernandes’ move to Spurs was most likely a case of wrong place at the wrong time.

He’s clearly a talented player and is performing well at the moment.

I imagine he would do far better if he came to the Premier League now.
