Report: Three Tottenham stars nominated for prestigious Ballon d’Or award

Harry Kane and Son Heung-min have been nominated for the 2022 men’s Ballon d’Or while Hugo Lloris has made the shortlist for the Yachine Trophy

The 66th edition of the prestigious Ballon d’Or award is set to take place earlier than usual, with Europe’s best player to be crowned at an official presentation ceremony in October (Goal.com).

While the award previously went to the best player over a calendar year, from the 2022 edition onwards, it will be decided on the based of the performances over a season.

Lionel Messi took home the award in 2021, which was the seventh time the Argentine has won the award while Cristiano Ronaldo has the second most with five (Statista).

Kane and Son are among the 30 names who have been nominated for the prestigious prize, with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema thought to be the hot favourite (Goal.com).

Lloris is in the running for the Yachine Trophy, which is awarded to the best goalkeeper over the course of a campaign.

The Tottenham captain is one of ten names to have made the shortlist, which includes the likes of Alisson Becker, Ederson and Manuel Neuer (Eurosport).

These awards generally go to players from the team who have won the Champions League (or a major international tournament).

So, the three Tottenham stars do not have a chance but it is certainly prestigious for the trio to be nominated as it serves as recognition that they are among the best in the world.
