Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is nearing his exit from North London after the club agreed a £13million deal with Al-Duhail, according to The Telegraph.
The report claims that the switch is now dependent on the 31-year-old agreeing personal terms with the Qatari outfit and flying to the Middle East to undergo a medical.
The Athletic revealed earlier this month that the Belgian international had already expressed his desire to the club to depart ahead of the new season, which would bring an end to his six-year stint with the North Londoners.
Alderweireld’s home town club of Royal Antwerp made an approach earlier this summer, which was rejected by Spurs.
Alderweireld has been a brilliant servant for Tottenham, forming a formidable central defensive partnership with his compatriot Jan Vertonghen.
At 31, Alderweireld now lacks the pace that the Spurs defence needs and it’s time for some fresh blood to come in as part of the rebuild. Jules Kounde and Cristian Romero would be two capable successors for the former Atletico Madrid man.
