Report: Tottenham 16-year-old named in Guardian’s 20 to watch list

The Guardian have named Tottenham teenager, Han Willhoft-King in their list of 20 Premier League starlets to keep an eye on.

The article takes a closer look at first-year scholars at all 20 Premier League clubs, picking one starlet born between September 2005 and August 2006 from each team.

In 2021, Jamie Donley was chosen from Spurs by the Guardian, while Alfie Devine, Dermi Lusala, Harvey White, Oliver Skipp, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Marcus Edwards, and Cameron Carter-Vickers were named in previous seasons.

With a number of those players going on to make first-team appearances for the Lilywhites, this Guardian scouting list appears to carry some weight.

The report claims that Willhoft-King is the standout talent at Spurs in his age group, a regular in the under-18 side despite still being just 16. He has also played for England U16s.

Having been at Spurs since he was just six years old, Guardian reporter David Hytner describes him as ‘smooth on the ball’ with an ‘impressive’ range of passing.

It appears this defensive midfielder could be one to watch as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks in similar positions.

The full report from Hytner reads: ‘Tottenham always pick their strongest team in the FA Youth Cup and last season, that meant starting Willhoft-King in every tie – even though he was still a schoolboy.

‘The journey lasted three games and it was an excellent experience for the standout talent of his year group at Spurs but it is where Willhoft-King intends to go next that is exciting.

‘At the club since the age of six, the England under-16 international is smooth on the ball and was pretty much a regular for the Spurs Under-18s from last October, although he would miss the end of the season because of injury. His range of passing is impressive.’

Spurs Web Opinion:

These lists can often be way off the mark, but the Guardian have picked out some future gems in the past when it comes to Spurs. So perhaps Willhoft-King really is a name for the future in North London.
