Report: Tottenham among trio of Premier League sides interested in Burnley star

Tottenham are one of three Premier League clubs that are interested in signing Burnley defender James Tarkowski on a free transfer, according to Fichajes.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in the Clarets’ defence since their promotion back to the top division in 2016.

However, Burnley are currently at risk of losing the centre-back for nothing at the end of the season, with his contract at the club set to expire in June 2022.

He has allegedly told the club’s chiefs that he will not be extending his current deal in Lancashire, which has since put a host of clubs on red alert ahead of a potential transfer.

Spanish publication Fichajes claim Tottenham are one of the clubs keeping tabs on his situation and are looking to continue bolstering the defence following the acquisition of Cristian Romero.

The report adds that Leicester and Newcastle have made their intentions known regarding Tarkowski, with the defender still firmly on the Magpies’ radar following their Saudi-led takeover.

Spurs Web Opinion

Tarkowski has emerged as a dependable option in the Burnley defence, which has seen him called up to the England squad at points. He would be a pretty decent signing to pick up, especially on a free transfer, but there is a question mark if he would fit in a team that wants to dominate possession.
