Report: Tottenham and AC Milan are battling it out to sign centre-back

Calciomercato.it have indicated that AC Milan are pulling out all the stops to beat Tottenham Hotspur to Bournemouth centre-back Lloyd Kelly.

The speculation linking Kelly with a move to Spurs has intensified recently, with GiveMeSport reporting a couple of weeks ago that the North London club have made ‘detailed checks’ on the Cherries star ahead of January.

Last week, 90 min also named the 25-year-old as one of the central defenders at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist ahead of January.

However, a few days ago Fabrizio Romano revealed that Kelly had also emerged as a target for Milan and Juventus, with the Serie A sides viewing the Englishman as an ‘interesting’ option since his contract runs out next summer.

AC Milan are pushing to sign Lloyd Kelly

Calciomercato.it have now provided an update on Milan’s pursuit of Kelly, explaining that technical director Geoffrey Moncada has personally flown to England to watch the centre-back in action this season.

It is said that the Rossoneri do not expect the deal to be straightforward as Bournemouth do not wish to let the defender leave midway into the season.

Further, the report adds that Milan face competition from Spurs, who have ‘not let go of Kelly’ after failing to sign him in the summer while Juventus and Liverpool are also said to be eyeing the player.

The publication adds that Stefano Pioli’s side are not prepared to give up on the Bournemouth star and are now ‘strongly pressing’ for his services.

By the sounds of it, it appears as if Bournemouth do not mind hanging on to Kelly until next summer and losing him on a free. That makes sense, given that preserving their Premier League status would be the Cherries’ number one priority.
