Report: Tottenham and Arsenal competing for 22-year-old right-back

Tottenham Hotspur are one of a number of clubs from across Europe who are interested in Real Betis defender Emerson, according to a report by Estadio Deportivo.

Emerson has been a consistent performer for Betis over the last couple of seasons and has even attracted comparisons with former Barcelona star Dani Alves due to his attacking prowess.

The 22-year-old was rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar during last summer transfer window but the North Londoners eventually ended up singing Matt Doherty from Wolves.

Doherty has not lived up to expectations at Spurs so far and reports indicate that the Republic of Ireland international could be sold in the summer.

Estadio Deportivo claim that Spurs could be about to make a move for Emerson in the summer, with the Lilywhites facing competition for the Brazilian from their North London rivals Arsenal.

Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan have also been mooted as potential destinations for the right-back, with both clubs said to have failed with their approaches to sign the defender in the last two transfer windows.

The report also states that Barcelona have the option to re-sign Emerson for €9m (£8m) this summer but it remains to be seen if the Catalans will take up the option.

Spurs Web Opinion

Aurier looks certain to leave Spurs in the summer due to his contract situation while Doherty has not shown enough this season to suggest that he is good enough. So right-back is a priority position to address for us in the summer. It is possible that we try to sign one top quality right-back and potentially use Tanganga as an understudy for the position next season.
