Report: Tottenham and Arsenal could battle it out for Ligue 1 starlet

Foot Mercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are both eyeing moves for Montpellier forward Elye Wahi.

Since breaking into Montpellier’s first team, Wahi has continued developing steadily, with the 20-year-old now seemingly having a breakthrough season, with seven goals and an assist to his name so far in 2022-23 (Transfermarkt).

Foot Mercato states that the versatile attacker, who can play through the middle or in either flank, has been followed by Arsenal for ‘several months’ but their North London rivals, Spurs, have now also entered the race.

The Lilywhites are said to have sent representatives to Stade de la Mosson to run the rule over Wahi. The report adds that the youngster is also on the radars of some Ligue 1 clubs, including Marseille.

It is explained that Montpellier value Wahi at more than €30m (£26.3m) and do not plan on letting the player leave this month unless they receive an ‘incredible last-minute offer’.

Spurs Web Opinion

We know that Fabio Paratici’s network of scouts keep a close eye on the emerging talent in France. Perhaps Spurs might be encouraged by the success of the Pape Matar Sarr deal and make a similar proposal for Wahi that would see the 20-year-old being loaned back to Montpellier until the end of the season.
