Report: Tottenham and Chelsea are at the ‘front row’ for centre-back target

Tuttosport have revealed that Juventus are keeping a close eye on the performances of Tottenham target Josko Gvardiol at the World Cup.

Gvardiol has emerged as one of the most talented young centre-backs in European football since his switch from Dinamo Zagreb to RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.

Unsurprisingly, the centre-back is thought to have alerted the interest of Premier League clubs, with Calciomercato.it reporting back in September that both Spurs and Chelsea are eyeing a move for the Croat in January.

TuttoSport have now revealed that Gvardiol is also on Juventus’ radar, with the Serie A giants said to be keen on signing a left-sided centre-back when the transfer window opens.

The report states that the Old Lady will watch the 20-year-old carefully at the World Cup to see how he gets on in the high-pressure tournament.

However, TuttoSport explain that Juve’s pursuit of Gvardiol is ‘rather complicated’ as ‘many eyes’ are on the defender, with Spurs and Chelsea said to be in the ‘front row’.

It is asserted that Leipzig will not let sell the Croat for less than €50m (£43m) and that his value could rise even further if he performs well in Qatar.

Spurs Web Opinion

I expect Tottenham to potentially reignite their interest in Gvardiol again next summer if he is still available but I cannot see the North London club signing a left-sided centre-back in January since Davies and Lenglet have both been solid in the first part of the campaign. So, the path is clear for Chelsea to push ahead with a move for the Croat.
