Report: Tottenham and Chelsea both have an eye on the same Ligue 1 star

According to L’Equipe (as relayed by GFFN), Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in Lille’s prolific forward Jonathan David.

David first rose to prominence due to his goalscoring exploits at Gent in the Belgian top flight and the centre-forward has continued to find the back of the net with regularity since his switch to Lille in 2020.

The Canadian international has scored 23 times so far this season across all competitions and is currently just one goal behind Kylian Mbappe in the race for the Ligue 1 Golden Boot (SuperSport).

L’Equipe have now claimed that this is likely to be David’s last season at Stade Pierre Mauroy despite him being contracted to Lille until 2025.

The publication states that there is no shortage of interest in the 23-year-old’s services ahead of the summer transfer window, with Tottenham being named as one of the clubs said to be exploring a move for the striker.

The report adds that Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Bayern Munich also have their eye on David, who is valued by Lille at around €65m (£57m).

Although David can operate as a number ten, he is most effective while playing as a centre-forward.

He is not someone who can do a job out wide, which is why the only way it would make sense for Spurs to make a move for the 23-year-old is if Harry Kane departs the club this summer.
