Report: Tottenham and Chelsea both on alert for German

According to a report in Kicker (via Calcio Mercato), Tottenham, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, and Atletico Madrid are involved in a four-way battle for young Schalke goalkeeper Alexander Nubel.

Nubel is currently on international duty with Germany at the Under-21 European Championships in Italy where he has played a key part in helping the German’s progress to the semi-final.

His performances in the tournament have reportedly caught the eye of several big clubs. The 22-year-old shot-stopper broke into Schalke’s first team last season and made 22 appearances for Die Konigsblauen.

Although he is not yet undisputed number 1 at his club, he is one of the most highly rated young goalkeepers in German football at the moment.

With Michel Vorm’s recent departure from Spurs, Tottenham might be looking to add another goalkeeper to the squad. However, it looks like they have a serious fight on their hands if they wish to sign Nubel.

Given that Hugo Lloris and Paulo Gazzaniga are the established number 1 and 2 at the club respectively, it makes sense for Tottenham to bring in a young keeper like Nubel who can learn from these two and slowly make the progression to the number 1 role.
