Report: Tottenham and Chelsea could battle it out for Real Madrid star

According to TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur could go head-to-head with Chelsea for the signature of Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy next summer.

Mendy is into his fifth season at Real Madrid and has made more than 150 appearances for the club but it has now emerged that the Frenchman’s spell at the Spanish capital could come to an end this summer.

The Athletic have revealed that while Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of the 28-year-old’s defensive qualities, he has his reservations about the player due to his lack of attacking contributions.

It is alleged that Los Blancos have no intention of offering the full-back a new deal and are expected to listen to offers for him at the end of the season.

Spurs and Chelsea are both looking at Ferland Mendy

TEAMtalk have relayed The Athletic’s report and have provided additional information on the matter, claiming that Mendy is attracting interest from the Premier League.

The report says that Tottenham are keeping tabs on the former Lyon man’s situation at Madrid and are contemplating an offer next summer.

However, it is alleged that they have to contend with competition from their London rivals Chelsea, who allegedly explored a move for Mendy during last month’s transfer window and continue to retain an interest in the player.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is quite an odd transfer rumour as Mendy does not fit into the profile of full-back that Ange would want as the Frenchman is not capable of inverting. Additionally, the Real Madrid star’s age also makes him an odd fit, with Spurs now evidently building a young squad.
