Report: Tottenham and Chelsea receive definitive answer on Gvardiol interest

According to Transfermarkt, RB Leipzig have informed Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea that they will not be selling Josko Gvardiol this summer.

Gvardiol has been a revelation in the Bundesliga since his move to Leipzig from Dinamo Zagreb 12 months ago and the 20-year-old is reportedly one of the names on Tottenham’s wishlist for a left-sided centre-back this summer (The Athletic).

Croatian publication Sportske Novosti reported last week that despite Spurs remaining keen on the young defender, he is expected to remain at the Red Bull Arena for one more season.

The report claimed that the centre-back could sign a contract extension with Leipzig that is likely to include a release clause of well over €50m (£42.9m), which can be activated next summer.

Transfermarkt have now revealed that both Tottenham and Chelsea have enquired about Gvardiol’s availability this summer but both London clubs have been warned off by Leipzig.

It is alleged that the Bundesliga side have informed the two Premier League clubs that the Croatian international will not be sold at any price during this transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems like Tottenham’s top two targets for the left centre-back role in Bastoni and Gvariol are both staying put at their respective clubs this summer.

I am surprised that Spurs have not pushed ahead with a move for Pau Torres, particularly given Villarreal’s interest in Giovani Lo Celso.

While the Spaniard does have a few weaknesses, I would much rather take him over Clement Lenglet, who seems to have now emerged as our main target.
