Report: Tottenham and Chelsea share two centre-back targets this summer

According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are eyeing moves for RB Leipzig’s Josko Gvardiol and Villarreal’s Pau Torres, both of whom are also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Signing a left-sided centre-back to offer competition to Ben Davies is reported to be a priority for Antonio Conte this summer, with previous reports indicating that Gvardiol is one of the names on the North London club’s wishlist (The Athletic).

The Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Torres has become Tottenham’s top target for the left centre-back role, with Football Insider even claiming that the Lilywhites could use Giovani Lo Celso as a makeweight in a deal to land the Spain international.

The Telegraph have now revealed that Chelsea are on the trails of both Gvardiol and Torres.

The report explains that Tomas Tuchel is on the lookout for defensive reinforcements this summer with Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta expected to follow Antonio Rudiger out of the door.

While the RB Leipzig star is allegedly seen by the German coach as Rudiger’s replacement, the Blues are also thought to have the Villarreal star on their list of targets.

Spurs Web Opinion

This is not the old Abramovich era Chelsea anymore and so, there is no reason why we will not be able to compete with them in the transfer market.

I suspect that Bastoni would be Conte’s preferred choice for the left centre-back role but I can see Spurs making a move for Gvardiol or Torres if a deal for the Italian proves unfeasible.
