Report: Tottenham and Liverpool set to battle it out for free agent

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head-to-head with Liverpool for Evan Ndicka this summer.

Ndicka has been a mainstay in the Eintracht Frankfurt backline over a number of years but the Frenchman is expected to leave when his contract with the Bundesliga club runs out this June.

Football Insider state that Tottenham are keen on snapping up the 23-year-old as a free agent, with the North London club said to be on the lookout for a new left-sided centre-back.

This is because the club have allegedly decided against signing Clement Lenglet permanently. The Lilywhites have reportedly identified Ndicka as the ‘ideal profile’ to replace the on-loan Barcelona star.

The outlet adds that Tottenham’s main competition for the centre-back is expected to come from Liverpool.

The Reds are thought to be keen on adding reinforcements to their backline since Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk are entering the twilight of their careers, with Ndicka being seen as a good fit by Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Neither Tottenham nor Liverpool are likely to be able to offer Champions League football to Ndicka next season, which might perhaps put off the Frenchman from joining either club.

One would expect the interest in the 23-year-old’s services to grow over the coming weeks, considering that he is available on a free.
