Report: Tottenham and Man Utd linked with move for experienced defender

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are reportedly battling it out for Inter Milan defender Diego Godin with the reports from Italy suggesting that the player is likely to end up at one of the two Premier League giants next season.

Godin has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham over the last few weeks, with reports suggesting that the 34-year-old is one of the centre-halves on the club’s radar as a possible replacement for Jan Vertonghen, who is out of contract this summer (Mirror).

Jose Mourinho is reported to be a fan of the Uruguayan international and it is claimed that he previously tried to sign him during his time at Old Trafford.

Tuttosport (as relayed by Football Italia) now report that Antonio Conte will let Godin leave this summer since the experienced defender does not fit into the tactical system he wants to employ.

The report suggests that the former Atletico star will likely end up at either Spurs or Man United, with the Red Devils being installed as favourites for the moment.

Spurs Web Opinion

Apart from Alderweireld, we have a fairly inexperienced backline and so I wouldn’t be surprised if Jose wanted to bring in an experienced defender to replace Vertonghen. However, I am not convinced he still has the legs for the Premier League and so it could potentially be a risky transfer if he is just bought in as a temporary stop-gap.
