Report: Tottenham and Napoli going head-to-head for free agent in January

According to a report from La Razon (as translated by Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are one of two clubs at the head of the queue for Diego Costa’s signature next month.

Atletico Madrid confirmed on Tuesday that they have terminated Diego Costa’s contract, which was due to run until the end of the season.

Tottenham were initially linked with a move for the 32-year-old in the summer transfer window while Mundo Deportivo reported last week that Spurs were competing with Napoli, Everton and Fenerbahce to snap up the former Chelsea man in January.

However, if La Razon are to be believed, it is now likely to be a head-to-head race between Napoli and Spurs for the Spanish international.

The report claims that the Serie A club will likely sell Arkadiusz Milik and Fernando Llorente in January and ‘will bid’ for Costa.

Milik is another name who has previously been mentioned as a potential target for Spurs (Express).

Spurs Web Opinion

I am certainly not against the idea of signing Costa as I think he can potentially add a lot to our side. However, you have to wonder where signing the 32-year-old would leave Carlos Vinicius, who has hardly featured in the Premier League since arriving from Benfica in the summer.
