Report: Tottenham and Newcastle not preferred destinations for Serie A star

Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo is not convinced by a move to Tottenham this summer as he would prefer to remain in Italy, according to the print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (13/06/22 — as relayed by Sport Witness).

The 22-year-old was a shining light under Jose Mourinho for the Giallorossi last season on the back of two injury-hit campaigns.

He tallied eight goals and nine assists (Transfermarkt) and was one of Roma’s key players as they secured European glory in the Europa Conference League.

Tottenham have emerged as suitors for Zaniolo with managing director of football Fabio Paratici thought to be a fan of the Italy international (CalcioMercato).

Gazzetta dello Sport claims Spurs and Newcastle are interested in completing a deal but these destinations are not to Zaniolo’s liking, who would prefer securing a switch to another Italian side.

The report adds that both Juventus and AC Milan are leading candidates from those in Serie A, but they could have trouble matching Roma’s €50 million (£42.9m) valuation.

Zaniolo is still quite young so for him as an Italian, staying in his own country and league as his next move could be of particular interest for him. The asking price is a little steep too for someone with a bit of a sketchy injury history, despite his high ceiling.
