Report: Tottenham and one other in pole position to sign Ajax star

Tottenham Hotspur almost fell short of the Champions League final at the hands of a young and vibrant Ajax team last season in the semi-finals.

Ajax went 3-0 up on aggregate at half time in the second leg of the semi, before Lucas Moura scored a 45-minute hat-trick to secure qualification for Spurs.

Pochettino and Tottenham, therefore, know all about the talent Ajax possess in their ranks, especially in the form of attacking midfielder Donny Van de Beek.

Van de Beek scored the only goal in the 1-0 first leg at the new Tottenham stadium, and was impressive in the first 45 in Amsterdam.

Spurs have since been linked with a move for the Dutch star, with Calcio Mercato now claiming that Tottenham and Man United have leapfrogged Inter Milan to become frontrunners.

Van de Beek is said to be worth around £45m this summer, with the 22-year-old reportedly keen to find a new challenge (Express).

Spurs Web Opinion:

Van de Beek would be my second choice behind James Maddison in terms of playmakers this transfer window. For just £45m, I think he presents the best value for money out of Tottenham’s reported targets. Even if Spurs do not sell Eriksen, I would still like to see the Dutch youngster come in.
