Report: Tottenham and West Ham both ‘entice’ Serie A central defender

Speculation continues to mount regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Udinese defender Rodrigo Becao, with a fresh report from Udinese Blog claiming the Brazilian is one of the most sought-after players at the club.

Becao has been with Udinese for over three years now, and appears to be hitting peak performance of late. He has 111 appearances for the Serie A side over the course of his time there (Transfermarkt) but has really come to prominence this season it seems.

Injury has hampered the 26-year-old’s campaign slightly, but in his nine club appearances this term (Transfermarkt) Becao has caught the eye of many clubs across Europe’s top leagues.

Spurs have been linked with Becao for a while now (Tutto Udinese), but Italian giants Inter Milan are also believed to be courting the Brazilian centre-half (Messaggero Veneto).

Tutto Udinese also claim Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Everton are tracking the defender, but a report from Mondo Udinese over the weekend suggested Becao would be a perfect fit for Tottenham’s system.

The report also touches on the fact that Becao’s current contract expires in 18 months, which has Udinese worried.

That particular report listed West Ham as another club joining the race for Becao’s signature. It comes as no surprise then, that the new report from Udinese Blog highlights Becao as one of the most coveted players at the Serie A club right now.

Apparently, Becao is “the most requested” in the Udinese squad who has enjoyed an “excellent season that increased the value of his price tag by several million.”

The report lists “Inter, Juve and always English clubs such as Tottenham, West Ham, and Everton” as the clubs that “entice the Brazilian.” However, Udinese Blog suggests there is still some hope of a “renewal with Udinese.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This rumour is really gaining traction now and it will be very interesting to see how this plays out in the January transfer window. I like the look of Becao, but there are probably better options out there. Nevertheless, with his contract running out, a good deal could be found here.
