Report: Tottenham are ‘advancing their pawns’ to try and sign 26-year-old

According to Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur have now stepped up their pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat.

Multiple publications (Relevo and La Repubblica 15/12/22 via Sport Witness) have reported on Tottenham’s interest in Amrabat over recent weeks, and Foot Mercato have now offered an update on the matter.

The French outlet claims that Spurs are ‘advancing their pawns’ for the Moroccan and are one of the clubs who are ‘most interested’ in the player ahead of January.

The report states that Antonio Conte has wanted the 26-year-old for a long time and has been watching him closely even when he was with Inter.

Foot Mercato add that Amrabat is in favour of a move to the Premier League but for the moment, the midfielder’s first choice is said to be Liverpool, although nothing concrete has been agreed with any club.

It is asserted that although Fiorentina wish to hold on to the former club Brugge star, the Serie A club would be willing to let him leave if they receive an offer of around €40m (£34.9m) for him.

Spurs Web Opinion

Most outlets over recent weeks seem to be suggesting that Liverpool are favourites to beat Spurs to Amarabt, which is not surprising considering that the Reds need a number six much more desperately than we do. An attacking midfielder is likely to be a bigger priority for Conte in January.
