Report: Tottenham are expected to battle Barcelona for 26-year-old

CalcioMercato have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat this summer.

Amrabat’s reputation blossomed as a result of his displays for Morocco in last year’s World Cup, with the north African side turning out to be the surprise package of the tournament as they went all the way to the semi-finals before being beaten by France.

CalcioMercato explain that the race for the defensive midfielder’s signature got heated during the final stages of the January transfer window.

The report states that Barca were one of the clubs who were keen on signing him at the time and that the midfielder was ‘disappointed’ that Fiorentina did not sell him to the Catalan giants.

It is asserted that Xavi Hernandez’s men could try again for Amrabat when the transfer window opens in the summer, with the La Liga club expected to face competition from Tottenham, who are ‘above all’ in the race for the midfielder’s signature.

Spurs Web Opinion

We know that Fabio Paratici was a big fan of Amrabat even before the midfielder’s heroics in Qatar. So, one can certainly not rule out Spurs from making an approach for the Moroccan.

However, the final decision will likely not be taken until the club finalise who replaces Conte at the helm.
