Report: Tottenham are ‘furious’ about club’s handling of on-loan midfielder

Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are furious with Charlton Athletic for their handling of midfielder Nile John.

John is thought of very highly at Tottenham, having already made two appearances for the first team, both of which have come in European competition (Transfermakrt).

The 20-year-old midfielder had been in terrific form for Spurs’ Under-23s this season, having scored seven goals and three assists in Premier League 2 before his loan move (TransferMarkt).

However, the youngster has not played a single minute for the Addicks since his move and has even been left out of the matchday squad altogether on eight occasions (TransferMarkt).

Charlton manager Johnnie Jackson insisted recently that the competition for places in midfield has prevented the Spurs youngster from getting opportunities (South London Press).

Football Insider have now revealed that the League One club had assured Tottenham that John would get game time. The North Londoners are now said to be ‘extremely dissatisfied’ at Charlton for not delivering on their promises.

Spurs Web Opinion

What makes John’s situation at Charlton particularly puzzling is the fact that the League One club essentially have nothing to play for this season. So, they could afford to give the likes of John a few opportunities.

I would not be surprised if Tottenham recalls the 19-year-old over the coming weeks. Spurs will also be wary of loaning their young prospects to Charlton in the future.
