Report: Tottenham are ‘in pole position’ to sign £39.8m-rated midfielder

According to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina.

The 26-year-old was a standout performer at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where he helped his nation make it to the semi-finals of the tournament with some brilliant performances from the middle of the park. Amrabat has 46 appearances at international level for Morocco (Transfermarkt).

His displays in Qatar have made Amrabat a coveted player across Europe now, building on the reputation that he already built with Fiorentina.

Amrabat has been impressive in 20 appearances for his club so far this season (Transfermarkt), but it is now unclear just how many games he has left in the iconic purple kit.

Interest in the midfielder is thought to be high, with Spurs, Liverpool, Inter Milan (Foot Mercato), Atletico Madrid, Barcelona (La Repubblica), Chelsea, Newcastle United, and West Ham United (Daily Mail) all reportedly in the race to sign him.

Now though, it sounds like Spurs may have the advantage, but Liverpool are pursuing a move too. That’s according to the latest from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim Conte’s side are “in pole position” in the queue of admirers for Amrabat.

Apparently, Tottenham are actively “chasing” the signature of the player, but could face a stumbling block as “there is also competition from La Liga.”

The report suggests a fee of around €40-45m (£35.4-£39.8m) could secure the move, but it remains to be seen whether Fiorentina would be willing to let Amrabat leave in the upcoming January transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m a big fan of Amrabat, but I think our attention in the impending transfer window has to be focused on other areas of the squad. We already have a very strong set of options in central midfield, and the time and money we could spend on signing Amrabat would be better utilised in strengthening our defence.
