Report: Tottenham are keeping an eye on midfielder Arsenal let go in 2020

According to Alfredo Pedulla, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in former Arsenal and Manchester United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

It has been reported over recent weeks that Antonio Conte wants to make six new signings in the summer, including two midfielders (Telegraph).

A number eight could be on the Italian’s wishlist, with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso seemingly not in the 52-year-old’s plans (Football Insider).

If Pedulla’s latest update is to be believed, Mkhitaryan is one of the options on Spurs’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Armenian has been a consistent performer for AS Roma since joining the Serie A club on an initial loan deal in 2019 before making the move permanent 12 months later.

Mkhitaryan has five goals and nine assists across all competitions for Jose Mourinho’s men this season but his current deal at the Stadio Olimpico runs out in the summer (Transfermarkt).

Pedulla claims the Giallorossi are keen to renew the attacking midfielder’s contract but the competition for his signature is heating up.

The journalist states that Mkhitaryan is of interest to Napoli and Inter Milan, while Spurs and Aston Villa also have their eyes on the former Arsenal man.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not expect Spurs to spend big on an attacking midfielder. We will probably bring in a low-cost option as a squad player as I expect Conte to stick to his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

Even so, one would think that the Italian would want a higher calibre of player than Mkhitaryan. At 33 years of age, the Armenian is not likely to be effective in the Premier League.
