Football Insider have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could battle Newcastle United for Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes this summer.
Spurs and Newcastle United are already expected to battle it out for James Maddison’s signature this summer, with reports over recent weeks indicating that the Lilywhites are currently the front-runners to snap up the midfielder (Telegraph).
If Football Insider’s latest update is to be believed, the Magpies and Spurs could also go head-to-head for another Foxes star this summer, with Barnes said to be of interest to both clubs.
The 25-year-old has had an impressive campaign with 10 goals from 28 Premier League appearances and he has two years left to run on his contract at the King Power Stadium (Transfermarkt).
According to Football Insider, Leicester have informed clubs that it would take a bid of around £50m to land Barnes this summer.
The report alleges that the Foxes are expected to demand top dollar for the England international even if relegation to the Championship weakens their bargaining position.
Spurs Web Opinion
I have been a huge fan of Barnes for a long time and would actually prefer him over Maddsion if we can only get one of the two.
I am convinced that the 25-year-old can evolve into a top-class player in the right system.
However, Tottenham will not be making any decisions on these transfer targets until they finalise a managerial appointment.
