Report: Tottenham are looking to hire five new members of staff for Ange Postecoglou

Ange Postecoglou has previously admitted he is not clued up on the data and analysis side of football, but he will be receiving help in that department this summer, as Tottenham Hotspur bring in five new faces to the coaching staff.

Tottenham are plotting an overhaul in more areas than just the playing squad this summer, it seems, with Scott Munn overseeing big changes in the scouting department, for one.

Already, familiar faces in Ian Broomfield, Augusto Benito, Colin Jackson, Alessandro Sbrizzo, and Dave Butler have found themselves surplus to requirements, but replacements are inbound.

As per the club’s recruitment portal, roles are now available for a lead data scientist, data engineer, recruitment analyst, first-team scout, and lead scouting insights analyst.

It is believed data and analytics will be crucial to the way Johan Lange and Rob Mackenzie operate in their roles as Tottenham’s technical director and chief scout.

But, Ange Postecoglou doesn’t understand any of this side of the game. He previously told the Glasgow Times: “The analytics thing is well beyond me… That’s where the future of a lot of scouting and player identification is going. These young guys are much better skilled at – and schooled in – getting the right information, then filtering it and putting it in a form that I can understand.”

It remains to be seen who will take these new roles and when they will be installed at Tottenham, but it seems the plan is to get them in place in time to make a difference in the transfer market this summer.

This sounds exciting. The approach to scouting over the last couple of years has been strong at Spurs, and it seems that will only improve now with new faces more attuned to the style of recruitment Scott Munn and the team want.
